As far as metal I would get white gold or stainless steel since they are much more durable than silver and don't require cleaning every few weeks.

b. because what exactly is the point of paying for the stones on the bottom of your finger? Its like paying for a diamond inside the band. You can't see them and they are just more likely to get damaged or dirty that way. Might as well take that money and get better quality stones where they can be seen or just save it all together.

This is a fairly easy calculation.
Suppose you a stack of 10 cards, and each of them is blank except for one card that contains a black dot. All the cards are face down, so you cannot see which one has the dot.
If you were to pick from the pile, you would have a 1 in 10 chance of picking the card with the black dot. That much hopefully is straight forward.
Now, if you were to pick from that pile on 3 separate occasions, and wanted to know the probability of picking that card with the black dot at least once among those 3 occasions, you basically need to find the probability of NOT picking the card with the dot, and subtracting that from 1.
The calculation would look like this:
Probability of NOT picking it once: 9/10 * 9*10 * 9/10 = 729/1000
Probability of picking it AT LEAST once = 1 – 729/1000 = 271/1000.
Therefore, you have a 2.71% chance of picking it at least once.
This is the concept you need for any variation of the problem you are talking about.
