I have an amethyst ring in a 14K gold setting and would like to have the stone cut and made into a pair of earrings. Does anything know how much something like this would cost? I am assuming the gold setting could be melted down to make posts?

It would probably cost you a couple hundred of dollars. 300.00-450.00 is a guest. you may want to go to some local jewelry stores and get prices to record them and than go to the cheapest. but remember only because they are cheap does not mean that they have a license or that they do a good job.
